Course Outline
Painting and sound practices share a long history of mutual admiration and inspiration. This practical course provides an opportunity to experiment with these relationships in a studio setting and to develop a variety of approaches to combining these media. Students may create paintings inspired by sound, sound works inspired by painting, or installations combining the two. Thematic and historical presentations form the basis of group discussions that develop frameworks to articulate interactions between these media.

Course Outline
Engagement of space is a central concern in contemporary sound works, and likewise, objects are articulated in unique ways through sound recording and sound sculpture. This course investigates music and sound art through the framework of such spatial themes. Works by modern and contemporary sound artists and theorists are explored with a view to constructing a particular understanding of sound: That of a sound history for the spatially obsessed.

This is a core class in the department, and while the outline was pre-existing, it was my role to create and design my own course materials and content.
Course Outline
This course, emphasising use of equipment by the student artist, introduces the practical applications of sound equipment, techniques, and theory. Subjects covered include microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, the basic physics of sound and magnetic tape recordings and associated skills. The concept of sound as a material with basic structural properties that may be manipulated is introduced. Students explore methods of composition, using various sound materials in assigned projects. A critical survey of sound art and experimental music introduces students to various approaches to understanding and experiencing sound within an art context.
The Aural Dimension – An Introduction to Sound in Sculpture

Course Outline
This course provides an introduction to sound in sculptural practice. Presentations of historical and contemporary work provide a context for student's own practical projects. Students gain experience in developing a variety of practical approaches and ways to think about combining sound and sculptural work.
